Hello, everyone! I’m Karen McConomy, the founder of Your Numbers Person, a bookkeeping service for creative agencies. (That’s me in the neon yellow pants.) Our mission is to bring financial clarity and direction and help our clients easily navigate the complexities of their finances. I wanted to tell you a little about who I am, why I started this business, and what you can expect if you work with us.
From my days as an economics student to my time on Wall Street, I’ve always been captivated by the world of numbers and business. Life took an exciting turn when my family and I moved to England. During this time, I transitioned from the corporate world to being a stay-at-home mom, engaging in small side hustles. I kept my passion for business alive and unknowingly set the stage for my future entrepreneurial journey.
Upon returning to the U.S., I was determined to start my own business. A piece of advice from a wise friend led me to learn QuickBooks, a skill that proved invaluable. I quickly realized the vast number of small businesses needing outside financial expertise. This discovery led to the founding of Your Numbers Person.
I chose to focus on creative agencies because I see a unique connection with what creative agencies do and my work with numbers. Just as these agencies aim to grow their clients’ revenue, I focus on growing their profitability. There’s a natural partnership here. While creatives excel in design and client engagement, we excel in managing their financial health. We ensure they can focus on their best work without financial distress getting in the way of their creativity.
Our specialized focus and approach set us apart from other bookkeeping firms. We treat every interaction with empathy and patience. If a concept isn’t clear the first time, its our job to reframe it until it clicks. Our team isn’t just about balancing books; were about building understanding and trust. Our process is meticulous, yet we aim to simplify financial jargon and concepts through analogies and straightforward explanations. For example, I often compare the profit and loss statement to a medical check-up. It tells you the health of your business at a glance.
Financial transparency and ethics are pillars at Your Numbers Person. We encourage our clients to maintain direct access to their financials while we provide the expertise to interpret and manage them effectively. This dual approach minimizes risks and builds a foundation of trust.
For any creative agency leader feeling overwhelmed by their books, consider this: financial clarity is not just about seeing numbers align. It’s about understanding your company’s story through those numbers. It’s about making informed decisions that prevent stress and propel business growth.
I find immense satisfaction in seeing all the pieces of a financial puzzle come together. There’s a genuine thrill in achieving that perfect zero difference during a bank reconciliation! But beyond the numbers, the stories behind each client truly enrich my work. Every business has unique challenges and aspirations, and I love the opportunity to be part of their journey. I want every client I work with to feel confident and assured, knowing their financial narrative is in competent and caring hands.
If you’d like to meet me to learn more, you can book a discovery call to meet me. I look forward to hearing from you!
